Offensive security distribution Kali Linux has reached its second release of the year with version 2026.2, now available for download. The update brings nine new tools to the repository, significant improvements to the Kali NetHunter mobile penetration testing platform, and performance optimizations for virtual machine users.
Expanded Toolset and Performance Gains
The Kali Linux 2026.2 release introduces nine new tools including arsenal-ng, a Go based command library with over 200 cybersecurity cheat sheets, legba for multiprotocol credential brute forcing, and oletools for analyzing Microsoft Office documents. The team has also upgraded the kernel to version 6.19 and updated desktop environments to GNOME 50 and KDE Plasma 6.6. Virtual machine images now exclude graphics firmware, reducing initrd size to 60 MB and cutting boot time by three times for VM users. Service helper scripts have been refreshed to simplify management tasks.
NetHunter Platform Enhancements
Kali NetHunter, the penetration testing platform for Android devices, receives a substantial update in this release. The app now launches instantly with improved custom commands and chroot manager fixes. New kernels with qcacld3 injection support and standalone kernel flashing via Magisk are included. A new EvilTwin tab with password verification captive portal addresses previous iptables issues, ensuring Android hotspot functionality works correctly after using tools like Wifipumpkin3. The NetHunter Pro option now offers bare metal support on additional phone models.
