Microsoft’s follow-up patch wave hits two dozen Office bugs

A second batch of fixes lands days after the record Patch Tuesday rollout.

Days after its record October Patch Tuesday, Microsoft shipped a second batch of fixes covering more than 30 new vulnerabilities. Most land in the Office suite.

Two dozen of the patches address high-severity remote code execution flaws. Half a dozen of those could be triggered through the Preview Pane, the reading view that renders content without a full document open – which shortens the distance between a malicious file arriving and code running.

Not just code execution

Alongside the RCE fixes, Microsoft closed multiple information disclosure bugs and a security bypass issue. The mix matters because disclosure flaws often pair well with execution bugs: one leaks the detail an attacker needs, the other weaponizes it.

In most cases exploitation still requires a victim to interact with a crafted file, so the practical defense remains the familiar one – do not open unexpected attachments and keep rendering paths current.

Why the cadence matters

The follow-up wave arrives on the heels of a rollout that by itself set a record for volume. For defenders, that shape of month is the real story: patch volume is climbing faster than most maintenance windows can absorb.

Prioritize by exploitation status, then by reachability. Preview Pane flaws deserve early attention because they sit in a path users reach constantly, and mail filtering should be tuned to catch Office documents from outside senders.
