How It Works

Claude has rolled out a significant update to its Cowork feature, allowing users to remotely manage and continue AI driven sessions across mobile and web platforms. Previously limited to desktop environments, the feature now supports cross device continuity, enabling users to start a task on a laptop and seamlessly resume or review progress from a mobile phone. The update is currently in beta and is being gradually released, starting with Max plan subscribers.

Claude Cowork functions as an AI agent that handles multi step tasks across integrated tools such as email, calendars, messaging apps, local files, and web resources. Unlike traditional chat interactions, it focuses on executing entire workflows rather than providing single responses. Over 90 percent of Cowork activity involves non programming tasks, primarily business operations and content creation, including analyzing financial data, generating reports, and preparing client presentations.

Security and Access Considerations

Claude can now continue working even when the user’s device is offline, with scheduled tasks running autonomously. The system introduces real time decision checkpoints that send prompts to the user’s phone when human input is required, ensuring users retain control over critical decisions while the AI handles execution. No final output is delivered or shared without explicit user approval.

From a cybersecurity perspective, this expanded access model introduces new risks. Cross device synchronization and persistent background execution increase the attack surface, particularly if mobile devices are compromised. Unauthorized access to Cowork sessions could expose sensitive enterprise data, including emails and internal documents. Security experts may need to evaluate how Claude handles encryption, session tokens, and device level authentication. Organizations adopting AI agents for workflow automation should implement strict access controls, monitor activity logs, and enforce mobile device security policies.
