Spanish authorities have arrested a suspected hacker linked to the Cyber Army of Russia Reborn, a pro-Russian hacktivist group known for conducting disruptive cyber attacks against European and NATO targets since the invasion of Ukraine.
The suspect, whose identity has not been publicly released, was arrested in an operation coordinated by Spains National Police with assistance from Europol. The individual is accused of participating in distributed denial-of-service attacks against critical infrastructure targets in Spain and other European countries, including government websites, transportation systems, and energy sector organizations.
Cyber Army of Russia Reborn emerged in 2022 as one of several pro-Russian hacktivist groups claiming responsibility for attacks against countries supporting Ukraine. While their tactics have primarily involved DDoS attacks and website defacement rather than sophisticated intrusions, the groups activities have caused significant disruption. The arrest represents one of the first successful law enforcement actions against a member of the group operating within the European Union.
