Attack on Nidec Chaun Choung Technology

The Blackfield ransomware gang has demanded a $2 million ransom from Nidec Corporation, a major Japanese manufacturer of electronic components for automotive and computing applications. The attack targeted Nidec’s Taiwanese subsidiary, Nidec Chaun Choung Technology, which was compromised on Monday, June 22, 2026. Nidec, a global leader in electric motor manufacturing with annual revenue of $17.2 billion and 100,000 employees worldwide, confirmed that ransomware caused damage to part of the subsidiary’s server infrastructure. The company immediately implemented emergency measures, including shutting down the affected server and network to prevent further spread.

Impact and Extortion Details

The Blackfield ransomware group has given Nidec over 15 days to respond and enter negotiations, threatening to publish or sell stolen data if the ransom is not paid. The threat actor demands $2 million to delete the allegedly stolen information, with an option to extend the deadline by one day for an additional $5,000. Alternatively, the group offers immediate download of the data for $400,000. Blackfield leaked samples of file structures and documents to prove the breach, though BleepingComputer could not independently verify the information. Nidec disclosed a “possibility of information leak” but stated no personal or confidential information has been confirmed as leaked publicly. The company is investigating potential impacts on production, shipping, and other business operations but does not expect the fallout to affect other Nidec Group companies. This incident follows a previous ransomware attack in October 2024 targeting Nidec’s Vietnam-based Precision division, which exposed over 50,000 sensitive files.
