Conflicting Updates Create Persistent Prompts
Microsoft has acknowledged a frustrating bug affecting its Teams collaboration app on macOS, where users are inundated with non-dismissible location permission requests. The issue, which began surfacing around mid-May 2026, presents a dialog asking for location access for purposes like GPS and Wi-Fi. In some cases, users report having to click ‘Don\’t Allow’ dozens of times in a single session, as the prompt reappears immediately after being dismissed.
According to a Microsoft incident report (TM1315837), the root cause is a recent macOS security update that fails to properly store the user’s location permission selection for Teams. This conflict prevents the operating system from remembering the user\’s choice, leading to the repeated prompts each time the app is used or switched to.
Workaround and Resolution Path
Microsoft has stated that it is working with Apple to understand the underlying change and find a permanent fix. In parallel, the company is investigating a potential update within Teams itself to mitigate the issue. The problem specifically impacts users who have enabled location access within their Teams settings.
Until an official fix is deployed, affected users can apply a manual workaround. This involves navigating to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, locating both ‘Microsoft Teams’ and ‘Microsoft Teams ModuleHost’, toggling their access off and back on, and then setting them to the desired state. This action should allow the operating system to save the preference and stop the prompt loop.
